Club Events & Activities

At Byron Hunters & Conservationists Circle (BSCC), we proudly organize a variety of events and activities throughout the year to bring together our members, families, and the local community. Our goal is to promote safe outdoor fun, skill development, and a deep respect for conservation. Below you’ll find an overview of some of our regular happenings and special gatherings — updated monthly with fresh dates and details.

Sporting Clays

Every Thursday evening from May through mid-September, members and guests can enjoy our relaxed Sporting Clays sessions in the scenic prairie setting of our range. Participants gather between 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM and are grouped into squads of 4–6 shooters. In the winter, we also host occasional Sunday shoots to keep skills sharp and spirits high.

Each round of 50 clay targets costs $12 for BSCC members, $15 for non-members, and just $7 for youth under 17 or students involved in high school shooting sports. Shooters aged 16 and under must present a valid Firearm Safety Certificate.

The course features 10 walk-through stations, varying each week for new challenges. Shooters can choose to shoot singles, report pairs, or true pairs, depending on comfort and skill level. We even have a golf cart available for those needing help moving between stations.

Sporting Clays at BSCC is all about improving skills, enjoying good company, and practicing safe shooting. Many participants share reloading tips and stories at the clubhouse afterward over snacks and refreshments. Bring your shotgun, at least 50 rounds of ammo (plus a few extras for good measure), eye and ear protection, and a bag or vest for spent shells.

New shooters are always welcome — just let the Range Captain know you’re new, and we’ll pair you with friendly, experienced shooters to guide you.

3D Archery Shoot

One of the highlights of our year is the annual 3D Archery Shoot, open to members and the public alike. Archers navigate a scenic walking course featuring 30 lifelike 3D targets spread throughout our beautiful 118-acre property. Plan to spend about two hours enjoying the course with friends and family.

Youth archers are encouraged to participate with adult supervision. Please note: crossbows are not permitted for this shoot. Each year, this event draws new faces and seasoned bow hunters alike — come test your skills and enjoy a day outdoors!

Small Game Hunt

During January and February, the BSCC Board invites members to participate in a shotgun-only small game hunt on club grounds. This is a unique opportunity for families and especially youth to experience hunting rabbits, squirrels, grouse, crows, and other small game — no rifles and no pheasant hunting allowed.

Hunters are asked to sign in and out at the clubhouse porch and mark their hunting sections on the map provided. Donations of harvested game for our popular wild game feed are always appreciated. Our resident chef has a knack for turning any wild harvest — even crow — into a delicious meal! Please read and follow all posted rules, hunt safely, and enjoy our beautiful club property.

Free Youth Shoot

One of our biggest and proudest traditions is the annual Free Youth Shoot. Every year, with the help of more than 60 dedicated volunteers, we welcome over 300 kids and parents for a day full of safe, fun shooting sports and activities.

Kids get a chance to try out target shooting, clays, and archery under close supervision. Youth-sized firearms, protective gear, and equipment are all provided. It’s an unforgettable day that builds confidence and skills while ensuring safety is always the top priority.

Envirothon

BSCC proudly supports an annual Envirothon — an interactive, outdoor educational experience for high school students. Participants rotate through five hands-on learning stations covering topics such as soils, wildlife, forestry, water resources, and current environmental issues. Each station is led by subject-matter professionals who love sharing their knowledge with the next generation of conservationists.

Club Meetings

Club meetings are now held on a quarterly basis and provide an important opportunity to share updates, reports, and plans for upcoming projects and activities. When weather permits, meetings take place at the BSCC clubhouse on the range grounds. Keep an eye on the calendar and check your email for exact meeting dates and agendas.

New Events & Community Initiatives

In addition to these longstanding favorites, BSCC regularly experiments with new community activities, seasonal fun shoots, and educational workshops. From family fun days to hunter safety refresher courses, there’s always something in the works. Check back each month and don’t miss your chance to get involved!
